Stone work in Fresno since 2001 — all under one roof

The short answer to “what makes Kotenkoff different” is this: we do every part of the job ourselves.
When you hire us, you’re not hiring a middleman who sends your slab to an outside shop. The same team that walks your space, templates the counter, cuts the stone, and finishes the edges is the team that shows up on installation day. Fewer hands on your stone means fewer mistakes — and a single point of accountability if something needs to be made right.

Three things shape every project we take on:

Precision technology, used the way it's meant to be used

Digital templating reads your space down to the fraction of an inch — no paper templates, no guesswork. Our in-house WaterJet handles intricate cuts, sink openings, custom inlays, and decorative work that traditional fabrication can’t match. Our CNC equipment produces consistent, repeatable edge profiles and detailed pieces. The technology isn’t the point — the precision it delivers is.

Craftsmanship that takes the time it takes

Machines don’t read a slab. Veining, movement, the right seam placement, knowing when an edge needs to be hand-finished — that’s what twenty-five years of doing this looks like. We don’t rush a project to fit a quota.

Local accountability

We live and work here. If something needs adjustment after installation, we’re a phone call to a Fresno number — not a corporate support line three states over.

What we make

Most of our work falls into a few categories. Use the links below to see project examples, material options, and what to expect for each.

Kitchen Countertops

Custom countertops, backsplashes, and islands in granite, quartz, quartzite, or marble. From a single-slab island to a full kitchen remodel with a waterfall edge, this is the work we do most. Single-slab islands, waterfall ends, integrated drain boards, undermount sink cutouts, and matched backsplashes — all cut and finished to your existing cabinetry. Most kitchen jobs go from template to installation in about a week of shop time, scheduled around when your other trades will be out of the way.

Bathroom Countertops & Showers

Vanity tops, full-slab shower walls and floors, tub surrounds, and threshold transitions. Bathroom stone gets wet, gets cleaned, and gets touched — we build it to hold up to all three. Curbless walk-in showers, integrated benches, recessed niches, double-vanity slabs, and matching window sills or trim. We pay close attention to sealing on natural stone in bathrooms — the water exposure is constant, and the wrong sealant schedule shows up fast.

Commercial Stone Fabrication

Restaurants, offices, hotels, retail, tenant improvements. Higher tolerances, faster timelines, and the same in-house workflow. We’ve handled everything from break room counters to full-floor reception desks across the Central Valley. Bar tops and server stations, hotel lobby reception desks, restroom vanities for tenant-improvement build-outs, retail point-of-sale counters. We work after-hours and weekends when the schedule requires it, and coordinate directly with your general contractor or project manager.

Custom WaterJet Fabrication

For projects that need more than a standard countertop — inlays, medallions, logos cut into stone, complex curves, intricate decorative pieces. Our WaterJet handles geometry traditional fabrication can’t. Compass roses in entryway floors, brand logos cut into reception desks, custom dimensional patterns in shower floors, butterfly inlays, and tight-radius curves that a standard saw would chip. Most custom WaterJet work is a one-off — bring us a sketch, a Pinterest photo, or just an idea, and we’ll tell you what’s possible.

Edge Profiles

Eased, bullnose, ogee, waterfall, chiseled, mitered — the edge you choose shapes how the whole piece reads. We’ll walk you through what works for your stone, your space, and how you actually use the counter. Eased edges work for almost any kitchen and disappear into the design; bullnose softens corners on bathroom vanities; ogee adds visible detail without being fussy; mitered waterfall edges turn a counter into a piece of furniture. We’ll bring samples to the consultation so you can feel them — most people pick by hand, not by photo.

Trims & Thresholds

Custom-cut transition pieces that finish a space cleanly — between rooms, between flooring materials, or anywhere stone meets something else. Window sills cut from the same slab as the counter, marble or granite shower curbs and saddles, door thresholds between tile and hardwood, fireplace hearths matched to a slab surround. Small pieces that finish off the larger work — and most jobs include them as part of the original order, not as a separate trip.

The stone behind the work

Four materials cover most of what we install. The right one for your project depends on how you use the space, what you want it to look like, and how much maintenance you’re up for.

Granite

Natural stone. No two slabs alike. Exceptionally durable, heat-resistant, and forgiving of busy kitchens. Sealed roughly once a year, granite handles real cooking and real life better than almost anything else.

Quartz

Engineered stone — consistent color, non-porous, no sealing required. The right choice when you want predictability over the natural variation of stone, or when low maintenance matters most.

Quartzite

Natural stone, often confused with quartz because of the name. Quartzite is actually closer to granite — harder than marble, heat-resistant, sealed about once a year. People choose it when they want the movement and veining of marble without marble’s softness.

Marble

Classic look. Softer surface. Distinctive veining. Marble is the right answer for bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, and lower-traffic kitchens — places where the patina that develops over time is part of the appeal, not a problem.

We also work with porcelain slabs (for both surfaces and sinks) and large-format porcelain tile — popular for shower walls, fireplace surrounds, and contemporary commercial installations.

What working with us actually looks like

Every project follows the same rhythm. Most residential projects move from first conversation to installed countertop in two to four weeks, depending on slab selection and scheduling.

Free consultation. We talk about what you’re building, what you want it to look like, and how you actually use the counter. There’s no pressure to choose anything in the first meeting.
Slab selection. Visit our Fresno showroom — or one of our partner yards — to see slabs in person. Natural stone has variation; picking the slab is part of designing the piece.
Digital templating. Our team comes to your space and templates the surface digitally. The measurements go straight to our fabrication shop, with no translation errors.
In-house fabrication. Cutting, edging, polishing, and any custom WaterJet or CNC work happens at our shop on N Maple Ave. This is where the slab becomes the piece.
Installation. Our install crew handles delivery, fitting, sealing (for natural stone), and the final cleanup. We don’t leave until you’re standing in front of the finished piece and it’s right.

Who we work with

Homeowners — most of what we do. Remodels, new builds, single-counter replacements, full-kitchen overhauls. If this is your first big stone project, we’ll walk you through it the way we’d want someone to walk us through it.

Contractors & designers — we’re the in-shop fabrication partner for general contractors, kitchen and bath designers, and interior designers across the Central Valley. If you need precision fabrication on a tight build timeline, we know how to fit your schedule and your client’s expectations.

Commercial buyers — restaurants, offices, retail, hospitality, tenant improvements. We carry commercial liability insurance, work with project managers and architects, and understand commercial tolerances and turnaround.

New construction — countertop specification during the build phase. We work directly with builders to slot stone fabrication into the construction calendar without delaying the rest of the trades.

Frequently asked questions

What services does Kotenkoff Granite offer?

We fabricate and install custom stone countertops, vanity tops, fireplace surrounds, shower surrounds, edge profiles, trims and thresholds, and commercial stone installations. Our work covers granite, quartz, quartzite, marble, porcelain, and large-format tile, with in-house WaterJet and CNC fabrication for custom designs, inlays, and intricate cuts. We handle every project end-to-end — consultation, slab selection, digital templating, fabrication, and installation.

What areas do you serve?

We’re based in Fresno and serve Fresno County, Madera County, and the surrounding Central Valley — including Clovis, Visalia, Reedley, and Selma. For projects outside this radius, call us to discuss whether your project fits.

How long does the countertop installation process take?

Most residential projects take two to four weeks from initial consultation to final installation. Slab selection, fabrication complexity, and scheduling all play a role. Complex custom WaterJet work or large commercial jobs may take longer; we’ll walk you through your timeline at the consultation.

Do I need to pick my slab in person?

For natural stone — granite and marble — we strongly recommend it. Every slab is different, and photos rarely do them justice. For engineered stone like quartz, in-person selection is helpful but less critical because the patterns are consistent across the slab.

Do you work with contractors and designers?

Yes. A meaningful portion of our work runs through general contractors, kitchen and bath designers, and interior designers. We adapt to your project workflow and can coordinate directly with your team.

Do you handle commercial projects?

Yes. We’re insured and experienced for commercial work — restaurants, offices, retail, hospitality, and tenant improvements. We’ve fabricated and installed countertops, reception desks, restroom vanities, and large-format installations for commercial clients throughout the Central Valley.

What’s the difference between granite, quartz, and marble countertops?

Granite is natural stone — durable, heat-resistant, with natural variation in every slab; needs annual sealing. Quartz is engineered stone — uniform, non-porous, never needs sealing, but slightly less heat-resistant than granite. Marble is natural stone with a softer surface and distinctive veining — ideal for bathrooms and lower-traffic spaces, but it etches when it meets acidic liquids. Come into the showroom and we’ll walk you through the comparison in person.

What’s the difference between quartz and quartzite?

The names sound nearly identical, but the materials are very different. Quartz is engineered stone — a manufactured product made by binding crushed quartz with resin. The pattern is consistent across the slab, it’s non-porous, and it doesn’t need sealing. Quartzite is natural stone, formed from sandstone under heat and pressure. It’s harder than granite, has the kind of flowing veining people associate with marble, and needs sealing about once a year. If you want low-maintenance and visual consistency, choose quartz. If you want natural stone with the look of marble and the durability of granite, choose quartzite.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. Initial consultations are free and come with no obligation. Bring photos, sketches, Pinterest boards, or just an idea — we’ll talk through your options.
